Although I spent a lot of time last night studying for a pretty big math test that I was supposed to have today (it got postponed, which made me angry), and although I really hated studying for it, I still love math. Today I thought I would blog about some reasons why I love math. Then you can figure out for yourself why I’m such a nerd.
My reasons are in no particular order.
- Math is fun! I love working through problems and arriving at an answer. Even if the answer is incorrect, I still feel accomplished for getting something. I love figuring out how each element of the problem works out/works together to solve the problem; I think there’s a certain elegance to be found in solving them.
- It is a challenge. Well, at least some of it anyway. In my opinion, being challenged is a good thing because it allows more room to learn. However, I even like the easy stuff, because of my first reason!
- There is one correct answer to nearly every problem. Lauren reminded me of this one. With math, grading is objective. You either get the right answer, or you don’t! There is none of that controversial subjectivity in grading that is found in subjects such as English.
I meant to list five reasons why I love math, but I was only able to think of three. I think those three pretty much sum up my love for math, however! It is just overall really fun for me.
Just in case you’re wondering, I am in a math class that is approximately equivalent to a calculus II class, or an AP calculus BC class. I love calculus.
When I post questions at the end of a blog, I worry that people will only answer the questions. However, I feel like asking some this time, at least to get you started. Please don’t only respond to the questions; it will make me sad!
- What math are you in if you currently take it, and what do you think of it?
- What is either your favorite or least favorite subject in school, and why?
