Past Layouts

Here I have included the layouts from my old domain, Woolisauce, as well as from my current domain, Broken Fall. This is because the content of my site did not change when I changed site names, so I consider the two to be the same site, in essence.

Woolisauce’s Layouts

V1: Untitled

This layout is composed of some of the custom shapes from Photoshop CS3, as well as some splatter brushes from a user on Deviantart. The fonts used are Georgia, Arial, Kaileen, Love Ya Like a Sister, and el&font gohtic!

I loved this layout, but the colors got boring rather quickly. I was also unhappy with the style of the layout at the time, since I wanted to own a pixel-themed site.

V2: Gingerbread House

I pixeled this layout over the course of a week in between working on major papers for school. It features a gingerbread house, and a little boy and his gingerbread man friend looking hungrily at it. The font used is superscript.

This is the first layout that I fully pixeled, and I had a lot of fun adding all the little details. One of my favorite details is the bird singing on the chimney, on top of a candy cane adorned with a pair of bells.

V3: Rapunzel

This layout features a fairytale scene in which a prince gazes up at his crying princess, who is crying apparently because the two lovers are being kept apart. I based my idea off the story of Rapunzel, and even originally intended to have the princess’s hair fall down the side of the tower, as in the story. The font used in this layout is 04b03.

Once again, my favorite part of pixeling this layout was adding all the little details. My favorite of these is probably either the black, encased flower to the princess’s left, or the view into the room on the top right.

V4: Love Doodles

This was my first attempt at creating a centered layout after learning how to code one. The fonts used in the image are Ashley, [ank]*, and !Sketchy Times. The brushes are from KeepWaiting and malstir on Deviantart, and from Smashed-Crayon, a site which has since closed.

This layout was only up for a day, at which point I switched back to the castle layout, since I didn’t end up liking it.

V5: Penguin Playtime

This layout’s image was made using a stock image from Smiley Helper, and the font used is PaintyPaint. This layout had a sort of whimsical feel to it with the upside-down penguin, but also a serene feel with the pale colors. Thinking back, I suppose this combination might have created a bit of a sense of nostalgia.

I was rather proud of this layout since it was my first centered layout that I actually liked, but the monotony of the colors began to bore me after a while.

V6: Punctuation Attack

This layout was inspired by Smiley Helper’s punctuation collage tutorial. The only font used in the image is Georgia, and a splat brush from an unknown designer that looks unintentionally reminiscent of the earth is used in the background.

My favorite part of this layout is that it is bold and unique, and the colors allowed for a lot of creativity in the CSS.

V7: Lacy Hearts

With this layout I attempted to create something simple and elegant. The fonts used in the image are Georgia and Lucida Caligraphy. “In your dreams tonight” is a lyric from the song “Shattered Glass” by Britney Spears.

My favorite part is the scalloped top and bottom edges of the main body of the layout, and how it seems to pop out from the background, which is an effect I created with a drop shadow.

V8: Paint Splat

This layout was a joint effort between my brother and myself. :) It contains some of the aforementioned brushes, along with a grid brush from an unknown artist, and the font used is Georgia.

The color scheme used in this layout comes across as rather sporty to me, and although I would not normally like that sort of thing, I thought it was rather fun.

Broken Fall’s Layouts

(The version numbers of these continue from Woolisauce.)

V9: Flower

This layout is the first of mine to use one of my own stock images. The fonts used are RichardMurray for the “Broken Fall” bit, and Windsong for the lyrics in the background. The lyrics are from one of my favorite Evanescence songs, “My Last Breath”. The butterfly brush is from Smashed-Crayon, a site that no longer exists.

I personally thought this layout was beautiful, although it received mixed reviews. However, it was a bit too similar to a layout Georgina had up at the same time.

V10: Cutesy Office

I tried to create a cute sort of office desk feel with this layout. The fonts used in the image are superscript for the initials on the key (RML; they are my own), and Kaileen is used for the rest of the text.

My favorite part of this layout is how it is personalized with a key with my own initials on it. I also liked the cute face I pixeled onto the star. Again, I come back to loving the little details.

V11: Field of Innocence

This layout features a picture, taken by my mom, of myself on a swing, as well as a picture of an old, amusing sign that stands in the sub division across the street from my own. I attempted to create a nostalgic feeling to match my own by aging the photos a bit, and by smearing the lyrics and fading the text written under the right-hand photo. Both the lyrics, which are from “Field of Innocence” by Evanescence, and the text that says my site name are written in my own writing, rather than in a digital font.

I love this layout for the nostalgia that it invokes in me, and because of all the personal touches that I added to it, such as my handwriting and the photographs. This is Broken Fall’s longest-running layout to date, as it was up for approximately three months.

V12: Butterfly

This layout is a compilation of a few preset shapes in Photoshop and some swirly brushes. The only font used in the header is RichardMurray.

I like how this layout is pretty and elegant. One of my favorite parts of the layout is the little ribbons that appear when you hover over the navigation. Unfortunately, this does not appear in this screenshot. Surprisingly, it was my first dark layout, and I think I pulled it off rather well.
